Mike Caulfield (@holden)
Mike Caulfield is currently the director of blended and networked learning at Washington State University Vancouver, and head of the Digital Polarization Initiative of the American Democracy Project, a multi-school pilot to change the way that online media literacy is taught. Currently rolling out at 12 U.S. universities, the project’s pilot involves over 80 course sections, 40 faculty, and thousands of students.
Since 2005 he has focused his energy on understanding how online communities and open resources can make students and citizens more effective and informed, most prominently at MIT as the first director of community outreach for the OpenCourseWare Consortium, but also as a founder of a number of local and hyperlocal online communities, and in numerous instructional design projects at Keene State College and WSU. He has been recognized for his thinking on these issues, both at national conferences and through Hapgood, his long running blog on educational technology issues (hapgood.us). He was the 2017 editor of the EDUCAUSE New Horizons feature on the future of educational technology.
Cheryl Brown (@cherybrown)
Cheryl is an Assoc Prof of e-learning at the University of Canterbury (NZ). Her research interests are centred around access to ICTs and how they facilitate or inhibit students’ participation in learning. In the past few years she has looked more closely at the role technological devices (for example cell phones and tablets) play in students learning in a developing context and the development of students’ digital literacy practices. She has led research projects on digital education leadership, personal mobile devices in learning and teaching and developing e-learning professionals in Africa.
