On October 5th, we will have the first of our series of Studio Visits. In a Google hangout (which you can watch live, above), invited guests and #unboundeq facilitators will explore the theme of Empathy and Bias. Omid Tofighian – Omid Tofighian is a lecturer, researcher and community advocate, combining philosophy with interests in rhetoric, religion, popular culture, transnationalism, displacement and discrimination. His current roles include Assistant Professor of Philosophy, American University in Cairo; Research Associate for the Department of Philosophy, University of Sydney; faculty at Iran Academia; and campaign manager for Why Is My Curriculum White? – Australasia. Omid contributes to community arts and cultural projects and works with asylum seekers, refugees and young people. He is the author of Myth and Philosophy in Platonic Dialogues (Palgrave Macmillan 2016) and translator of Behrouz Boochani’s book No Friend but the Mountains: Writing From Manus Prison (Picador 2018).

Parisa Mehran – Born and raised in Tehran, Parisa Mehran is a PhD candidate in Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) at an Augmented Reality (AR) Lab in Japan and teaches English part-time at several universities. Parisa is an English tutor at Paper Airplanes (https://www.paper-airplanes.org/), which provides free, one-on-one language and skills instruction to people affected by conflict so they can pursue education, secure employment, and ultimately, rebuild their lives. She also teaches for the Hands Up Project (https://handsupproject.org/), which offers online English storytelling lessons to Palestinian and Syrian children in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jordan.
